Earlier this month, I met with our Library Director and Friends President to discuss the funding outlook for FY2011. We anticipate another difficult budget cycle.
I also began reaching out to activist librarians across the country to enrich my understanding of the library community. Brett Bonfield and I have begun sharing ideas about publishing some analytical work. Michael Porter (a.k.a. Libraryman) has generously shared his passion and energy for democracy, community, lifelong learning and using new mediums to deliver valuable services.
These conversations have been a much-needed counterbalance to strategizing around my town’s fiscal situation and reading discouraging reports streaming through my feedreader.
