Our library recently hosted a sleepover for a local Brownie troop. When I heard about it, 
my mind flashed back to when I was a Brownie (and the Kodak Instamatic was the latest mobile innovation). And I imagined what a treat it must have been for these 2nd & 3rd graders! Our library is an awesome place for a sleep over … with a hampster, playmats & games in the 3rd floor children’s room; tall stacks, reading lounges and the big front desk to explore on the 2nd floor, and a ground floor with a spooky back hallway and large meeting room to set up camp for the night. Brownie troops have been doing things like this for decades and I hope they will for decades to come.
Our library has hosted 3 – 4 different sleepovers in recent memory. Library personnel need to be present when the building is in use, and each time one of our staff has donated their time to make the sleepover possible. I’m hard pressed to think of another municipal or retail entity where the space would be as fun and the employee commitment and generosity so strong.
